The THCS Partnership is currently running a consultation among experts in several countries, collecting views on capacity building related to Research and innovation (R&I) for transforming health and care systems. 

The survey is open to researchers, R&I funders, policy makers, patient/citizen representatives, health and social care professionals, industry representatives and anyone who is interested in capacity building for R&I in relation to health and care systems.

The EP PerMed Survey on the ‘Awareness of Citizens of Personalised Medicine’ aims to generate data on people’s awareness and perception of personalised medicine (PM), and to develop a strategy to increase awareness and participation within a wider international community.

European Commission has adopted the main Horizon Europe work programme for 2026-2027, a €14 billion investment designed to drive research and innovation (R&I) across the EU's strategic goals. 

A major novelty of the work programme 2026-2027 are horizontal calls, which address cross-cutting challenges across different research and innovation areas.

The European Commission published in November an interim evaluation of the EU4Health Programme, the largest and most ambitious EU health funding programme ever.

The interim evaluation of EU4Health shows that the Programme is on track to achieving its objectives. There is significant progress in meeting targets in key areas such as: crisis preparedness and response; health promotion and disease prevention; cancer; and addressing the needs of rare disease patients through ERNs.

The European Commission's European Research Executive Agency has published a guide to support research and innovation projects in maximizing the economic and societal impact of their results. The starter kit helps explore the key opportunities for meeting dissemination and exploitation expectations under Horizon Europe. It includes practical tips, step-by-step instructions, and a toolbox to help researchers make the most of their results.

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) pre-published the draft topics for Call 12.

Five topics are currently planned for the single-stage Call 12, which will be finalized and published in the coming weeks. Applicants for this call can largely define their own topics, as long as they remain within the framework of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA).

A brokerage event will take place in Brussels on November 4–5, 2025. The event aims to provide interested parties with the opportunity to network in person and form consortia. Pitching and poster sessions will also be offered, giving research organizations, patient groups, and companies the chance to present their expertise.

The survey is to find out how the voices of citizens can be incorporated more effectively into future policy and scientific discussions concerning personalised medicine.

On July 16, 2025, the European Commission published its proposals for the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, "Horizon Europe" (2028-2034), as well as for a new European Competitiveness Fund (ECF). The Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), also presented, with a total volume of €2 trillion, allocates €175 billion for Horizon Europe and €409 billion for the ECF.

The European Commission's legislative proposals will be coordinated with the Member States in the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament over the next two years.

The Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has launched a call for expression of interest for Lung Cancer experts. With this call the JRC is establishing a Working Group to develop guidelines for lung cancer primary prevention, screening and diagnosis together with requirements for lung cancer services covering the entire care pathway.

They are seeking for clinical, scientific, and technical experts in relevant topic areas , as well as from patients and/or caregivers to be appointed as members of the Working Group.

A Chair and a Vice-Chair will also be appointed as an outcome of this call.

The new European partnership OHAMR ("One Health Antimicrobial Resistance") launched on June 1, 2025. It brings together 53 organizations from 30 European and non-European countries and supports research and innovation to address the challenges of antimicrobial resistance. Its predecessor, JPIAMR ("Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance"), ended on May 31, 2025. OHAMR builds on the extensive work of JPIAMR.

OHAMR's first "Joint Transnational Call" is planned for November 2025. It will focus on providing innovative and cost-effective treatment options.
