Horizon Europe is the European Union (EU) funding program for research and innovation. It has a budget of 95.5 billion euros for seven years (2021-2027) and offers a variety of different funding opportunities.
Horizon Europe is divided into different program parts with specific objectives and call conditions. In addition to the health cluster, there are funding opportunities for projects in the field of health research in numerous other parts of the program, as we will briefly explain to you below.
Structure
The Horizon Europe programme consists of three core themes or 'pillars':
1. Excellent science
The aim of the "Excellent Science" pillar is to strengthen and expand the excellence of the European Union's scientific base. This part of the program is largely open and offers funding opportunities for both individual and collaborative research. Funding offers exist for the creation of new knowledge, technologies and solutions, but also for supporting the training and mobility of researchers and the use and networking of infrastructures.
2. Global challenges & European industrial competitiveness
The objectives of this pillar are to support the creation and dissemination of high-quality new knowledge, technologies and sustainable solutions, as well as to strengthen European industrial competitiveness, but also to support and implement EU policies and sustainability goals. The part of the program mainly offers funding for collaborative.
3. Innovative Europe
The aim of this pillar is to promote all forms of innovation. This includes the promotion of technological development as well as knowledge and technology transfer and the introduction and use of innovative solutions. Innovative Europe offers both open calls and calls on specific themes. There are funding opportunities for joint projects, but also specific offers for individual small and medium-sized companies.
- Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area (ERA) This horizontal funding area aims to increase the participation of all countries of the European Union in Horizon Europe, improve cooperation between all countries and further develop the ERA.
