European Commission publishes Code of Practice for AI-generated content

The European Commission has published a voluntary Code of Practice on the marking and labelling of AI-generated content to help providers and deployers of generative AI comply with the transparency requirements of the EU AI Act, which will apply from 2 August 2026. 

The Code provides practical guidance on labelling AI-generated text, images, audio, video and deepfakes, and is accompanied by a set of official EU icons for marking AI-generated content.

Have Your Say on the Future of Horizon Europe Joint Undertakings

The European Commission has launched a Call for Evidence on the future of European Partnerships implemented as Joint Undertakings under the next EU research and innovation framework programme. Stakeholders are invited to share their views on the future design, governance and impact of these partnerships as part of the Commission's impact assessment.

Successful negotiations with Australia

The European Commission and Australia have successfully concluded negotiations on Australia's association to Horizon Europe, the EU's flagship €93.5 billion research and innovation funding programme. Australia will associate to Pillar II of Horizon Europe, which addresses societal challenges in the digital, industry and space; climate, energy and mobility; and food, bioeconomy and agriculture fields.

The European Commission has encouraged NCPs to inform the applicant community about the updated deadlines for the Horizon Europe Cluster 1 Health calls in 2027. Please note that the current draft available in the Comitology Register does not yet reflect all changes.

Ebola Outbreak 2026: EU Response and Preparedness

The European Commission is closely monitoring the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment is currently available. While the risk to the general public in Europe remains very low, the EU, WHO, and international partners are coordinating preparedness, surveillance, and response efforts to contain the outbreak and support affected countries.

Surveys on Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD)

The OrphaDev4Kids Project, an EU funded project to develop orphan medical devices, is developing a wearable multiplexed biosensor for cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD), under one of its work packages. 

 In order to develop the biosensor, they are launching 3 surveys to collect feedback from researchers, caregivers and patients.  

The surveys are intended to collect insights ensuring that the device meets technical, usability, and clinical effectiveness requirements. The surveys for patients and caregivers are available in several languages. They take about 15-20 minutes.

Consultation about Biotech Act II

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on Biotech Act II, a forthcoming initiative aimed at strengthening Europe's industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing sectors. Stakeholders from research, industry, public authorities, and civil society are invited to contribute their views and help shape the future framework. The consultation is part of the Commission's preparation of a legislative proposal expected in 2026.

Stakeholders’ targeted consultation about EU4Health work programme 2027

The EU4Health Programme, adopted in March 2021, is the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to build a strong European Health Union by supporting legislative and non-legislative Union health priorities.The European Commission is building a strong European Health Union, in which all EU countries prepare and respond together to health crises, medical supplies are available, affordable and innovative, and countries work together to improve prevention, treatment and aftercare for diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular diseases.

This targeted consultation is intended to seek the opinion of stakeholders about current and future Union health priorities and strategic orientations on key health needs to be addressed through the EU4Health work programme 2027.

This targeted consultation will be available to 12 June 2026.

Guidelines on processing of personal data for scientific research purposes - public consultation ongoing

The European Data Protection Board welcomes comments on the Guidelines 1/2026 on processing of personal data for scientific research purposes.
Such comments should be sent 25th June 2026 at the latest using the provided form.

EPTRI Paediatric Research Needs Survey

The purpose of this survey is to better understand the current paediatric research needs and gaps, operational, regulatory and and system-level barriers, and priorities for expertise, infrastructure and support services.

The survey targets a broad range of stakeholders, including clinical centres, academia, industry, patient organisations and regulatory bodies involved in paediatric research and innovation, with specific questions tailored to the type of organisation.

The survey will be open until 26 June 2026.

EU and Australia formally open negotiations on the association to Horizon Europe

Following the visit of President von der Leyen to Australia, the European Commission and Australia have today opened formal negotiations for the association to Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme.

Association would allow Australian entities to access funding directly from the programme and to participate on similar terms with EU Member States and other associated countries. This would enable more ambitious, long-term collaboration between researchers, businesses and public institutions, while reducing administrative barriers and aligning efforts within a single framework.
